Pollen counts: The Big Picture

If you have the time, it may be fun and educational to watch the pollen count not only in Austin but also in the surrounding region.

The national Allergy Bureau is a network of certified pollen counting stations.

You can find the Texas area at https://aaaai.org/global/nab-pollen-counts/south-central-region

If you watch the pollen counts over time, you will notice both their similarities and their differences. For example, the two Waco counting stations often disagree. Same with the two San Antonio stations. These differences have to do with exact location, I-35 runs along the dividing line between the Edwards Plateau (to the west) and the Black land Prairie (to the east). Two different sets of plants. As the wind shifts, two different sets of pollens.
